CROSSING BORDERS-ENCOUNTERING GOD

April 22nd, 2010

border event symbol copyOn April 15th, a group of Christians from both sides of the U.S./ Mexico border gathered in Phoenix, Arizona to celebrate our unity in faith, to confront the figurative and literal borders that divide us, and to proclaim that Jesus is our peace who breaks down the dividing wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:14). We gathered together as brothers and sisters of faith in a time in which the current United States immigration and border enforcement policies are broken and create division, fear, and insecurity in our communities and between our nations.  Click here to read the open letter that was drafted and signed by many of the
participants.  Click here to view the slide show from the event.

During closing worship, Dr. Carlos Cardoza-Orlandi, Professor of World Christianity at Columbia Theological Seminary, reminded us of the surprising unity that the spirit can lead us to across political, ethnic and economic borders.  Click here to read his sermon.

The pre-event option to “Crossing Borders-Encountering God”, included a trip with Frontera de Cristo to Douglas, AZ and Agua Prieta, Mexico.  A group of 11 participants engaged in a border encounter between Douglas and Agua Preita on the Mexican side of the border.  To view this vivid photo album, click here.

Greetings from the Fujii’s

March 15th, 2010

fujiil_0603Dear Synod of Southwest, Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

It was so good to meet and spend time with you last October during Mission Challenge 2009. My special thanks for all who welcomed me to their churches and offered me hospitality. I am also thankful for Mary Lynn Walters who coordinated all my visits. I pray that God would keep world missions on your heart and in your prayers.

Currently, I am back in Los Alamos visiting with my parents.  Leith remains in Thailand, working with 2 of our students from the Bangkok Institute of Theology, in preparation (by faith) for a summer mission experience in a closed neighboring country.  A full fledged protest is in process in Bangkok, the UDD who are demanding the government to dissolve and new elections to be held.  Most of the UDD favor the ousted and convicted former Prime Minister Taksin, who is currently in exile. Please pray!

Just to let you know that our December 2009 and January 2010 prayer letters are posted on our website:http://www.pcusa.org/missionconnections/profiles/fujiil.htm

Thank you for your valuable partnership!
Love,
Leith and Carol Fujii, PCUSA mission co-workers, Thailand
